Peter Benson, MA, LMFT

Clinical Director

Peter “Pete” Benson is a Marriage and Family Therapist licensed in Idaho, Utah and Washington. He is an AAMFT approved supervisor. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Recreational Therapy from BYU-Idaho and maintains a national certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist. He earned a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, WA where he received rigorous clinical training in working with a diverse clientele of individuals, couples and families. peter@whitepinefc.com

Pete works from an attachment and emotionally focused perspective. He creates a uniquely safe and validating environment. Pete specializes in couple’s issues (pre-marital therapy, relational enhancement, communication, infidelity, disconnection, separation, and sex), anxiety, trauma, issues related to power and privilege, pornography addiction, and family functioning (parenting, co-parenting, relational discord). He is Prepare and Enrich certified and has experience with team and family building workshops. Pete says he gets to live his dream on a daily basis by enjoying time with his wife and six children.

Talon Mansfield

Intern

Talon Mansfield is pursuing a master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Capella University; he earned his bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Family Studies from Brigham Young University. In his work, Talon strives to help people feel comfortable, safe, and seen. He works from an emotionally focused perspective along with other systemic models that fit the needs of his client, such as Solution-Focused Therapy, Structural Therapy, Experiential Therapy. He is interested in working with couples and intimate partner issues, family problems, teenagers, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, ADHD, and trauma. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, playing basketball and baseball, being outdoors, and spending time with family. 

Klarissa Clinger

Intern

Klarissa Clinger is a student pursuing a master’s degree in counseling at Idaho State University. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Weber State University in Ogden, Utah, where she majored in psychology and minored in child and family studies. As an intern at White Pine Family Counseling, Klarissa is excited to work with individuals, couples and families. She prioritizes creating a safe space where challenges can be openly explored. She is interested in premarital work, couples’ issues, anxiety, and trauma. Klarissa enjoys being outdoors and spending time with her husband and daughter. klarissa@whitepinefc.com

Pete has helped me tremendously through my college years dealing with relationships and self confidence. Because of this therapy program I am able to progress through life now with a clear head, and with many exercises and strategies in my pocket that I am able to utilize to get me through even the toughest situations.

We are seeking a compassionate clinician to join our team (Marriage and Family Therapist preferred). White Pine Family Counseling is a place where clients come to experience being seen and heard on a new level; they are our focus.

As a clinician with White Pine Family Counseling, you will be responsible for providing evidence based and culturally competent therapy for individuals, couples, and families. Your role will involve helping clients navigate difficult life transitions, improve communication and relationship skills, and address emotional and mental health challenges.
